The Avenger’s design team was tasked with fitting “100 percent of the brand DNA into four metres,” and they did an excellent job. You can tell this is a Jeep even from a hundred feet away. The Avenger has an unabashedly bulky and squared-off form with a broad, planted-looking stance to give it more attitude, in contrast to other compact SUVs that have curved bodywork or a sweeping roofline to seem futuristic or aid in aerodynamics.
The Avenger does have a rather aggressive profile overall, and the front end is a development of Jeep’s famous seven-slot grille. However, given its little size, it makes us think of a dog who likes to snarl at the morning postman.
The car has a lot of cladding on the side and in the wheel arches, which gives it the look of a tough off-road vehicle and also makes it more resilient to dings and scratches. The back is straightforward, with X-shaped tail lights and additional black plastic.
In addition, Jeep has buried other “easter eggs” throughout the Avenger, such as a tiny drawing of the designer’s kid gazing through a telescope at the sky in the windshield corner and numerous additional seven-slot-grille designs on the rims and front air intake.
Buyers may select from a variety of paint colors, including two-tone designs like the Volcano black roof and Sun yellow of our test car. Choosing this combination also allows you to have a yellow dashboard, which adds brightness to the interior. The Avenger was first introduced as an EV in the UK, but a less expensive petrol version with a starting price of just under £25,000 and a more efficient e-Hybrid at around £26,000 have since been released. The top-spec Summit model costs little under £34,000, while the completely electric vehicle costs about £30,000. The Upland version of the four-wheel drive 4xe starts at about £31,000, while the North Face model tops off at £35,000.
The Peugeot 2008, Vauxhall Mokka, Citroen C4 and DS 3, and their all-electric equivalents use the same CMP/e-CMP platform as the Avenger. In the EV variant, the single electric motor that powers the front wheels is powered by a 54kWh battery pack located beneath the floor. Although a 4xe version with all-wheel drive that uses the e-Hybrid powertrain is also available, some ardent Jeep enthusiasts may consider this to be sacrilegious.
The Avenger e-Hybrid is powered by a mild hybrid system, while the pure-petrol variants have a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine and a six-speed manual transmission. This combines a 28-bhp electric motor that is directly incorporated into the six-speed automatic transmission and driven by a tiny lithium-ion battery with a 1.2-liter gasoline engine. Although the hybrid system can travel at low speeds using only electricity, it costs around £1,000 more than a standard petrol engine.
The Avenger’s trim levels are simple: the electric and e-hybrid versions come in Longitude, Altitude, and Summit trim levels, while the pure-petrol version is only offered in Longitude or Altitude.
A 10.25-inch central touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connection, a seven-inch digital driver’s display, rear parking sensors, cruise control, and a few additional safety features are included in entry-level Longitude versions. These models also come with 16-inch alloy wheels and automatic LED lighting. Because the Avenger comes with a number of driving modes, such as special settings for mud, sand, and snow as well as a hill descent system, it should be able to manage some wet or slick terrain when the need arises.
