2026 Jeep Cherokee Limited Release Date, Specs, Performance – The new 2.2-liter engine in the Jeep Cherokee is undoubtedly more eager and urgent than the previous 2.0-liter engine, but the chassis and suspension have not changed. This indicates that it is still a little restless in the city and still slouches and rolls on the highway. In a market dominated by Land Rover, BMW, and Audi, its competence is just insufficient.
Jeep was in dire straits at the beginning of the decade. Early in 2009, it filed for total bankruptcy as a member of the Chrysler Group, but later that year, Fiat swiftly bought it. 2026 Jeep Cherokee Limited Release Date
2026 Jeep Cherokee Limited Redesign and Update Plan
Exterior & Interior
The Cherokee seems to increase rpm without any sense of speed when you plant your foot. You’ll be shocked by how fast you’re moving if you look down at the dials, and it will continue to accelerate well beyond the national speed limit.
Jeep’s Active Drive I technology, which intelligently disconnects the rear axle when not in use to conserve gasoline, is standard on base models. But for better off-roading, the 197bhp version is also offered with Active Drive II and a low range setting. This raises the price by £185 but has no effect on the vehicle’s 2.5-ton towing capability.
In such a cutthroat class, refinement is a bit behind the times. At idle, the Jeep makes a lot of noise, but it calms down when driving and doesn’t have any problems on the highway. However, even with the bigger AMG Line alloy wheels, a Mercedes GLC is significantly quieter.
However, we were most irritated by the suspension. Jeep hasn’t improved the Cherokee’s driving experience even if it installed a bigger, more powerful engine. This indicates that while it still sulks and rolls on rolling B-roads, it still twitches over bumps and lumps in town. Compared to the BMW X3 or even cars like the Ford Kuga and Volkswagen Tiguan, it feels sloppy and is a surefire way to get car sickness.

Engine & Performance
The competition is therefore fierce. However, this new 197bhp 2.2 makes a strong argument for itself on paper. It is now 8 mph faster flat out (now 127 mph) and 1.5 seconds faster to 62 mph (8.5 vs. 10 seconds). Importantly, it also boasts 90Nm more torque, which immediately gives it a more urgent feeling.
Even with the increased performance, the new engine will still go farther on a gallon of diesel fuel. With a £145 yearly road tax, it will have the exact same fuel efficiency as an Audi Q5 TDI 190 and be in the same VED band.
The Cherokee isn’t very fast in real life, and it doesn’t accelerate as smoothly or sweetly as the BMW X3, but the power boost is nice, and the nine-speed gearbox shifts gears rapidly. As previously mentioned, there are no paddles placed on the steering wheel, and using the traditional lever to switch the “box” to manual mode occasionally prevents you from choosing the gear you desire, which may be annoying. 2026 Jeep Cherokee Limited Release Date
2026 Jeep Cherokee Limited Fuel Economy
However, the lengthy kit list won’t let you down. While the lower-powered 182bhp vehicle is available in cheaper Longitude and Longitude+ guises, the 197bhp engine is only offered as a range-topping Limited model (the off-road orientated Trailhawk variant is reserved for the 3.2-liter petrol V6).
Our limited edition vehicle had bigger 18-inch alloy wheels, a power tailgate, keyless entry, a seven-inch TFT screen between the dials, electrically powered heated and ventilated front seats, and xenon headlights. Jeep Longitude+ and Limited models also come equipped with the well-known 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen media center and navigation.
With the back seats in their most convenient positions, the practical 591-liter trunk can still be expanded to 714-liters. Although it is competitive when compared to competitors, the 1,267-liter cargo bay is not as large as the 1,698-liter Land Rover Discovery Sport when folded flat. 2026 Jeep Cherokee Limited Release Date
